The Travellers Times can reveal that the wagon sold to Tyson Fury by Connor John Hamer is the same one that lead the Traveller rights Rally in Manchester late last year.

The rally, organised by the Gypsy Traveller League, took place on the 6th December as their response to the “racist” policing In Manchester city centre on the 23rd November that saw Traveller children and teenagers “herded around like animals” and assaulted by Manchester Police.

Videos of police indiscriminately barring Traveller young people from shopping centres and forcing them back onto trains at mainline Manchester stations spread rapidly on social media, causing wide-spread horror and anger among Traveller communities.

The rally was led by a traditional Bill Wright horse drawn wagon that Bury Traveller Connor John Hamer brought along to the rally.

That wagon now belongs to Tyson Fury after Connor John Hammer recently sold it to him – to raise money to grow his business and to expand his yard.

John Reilly, head of the Gypsy Traveller League, told the Travellers Times that fellow campaigner and rally organiser Tommy Joyce had reached out to Connor John Hamer ahead of the Manchester Traveller Rights Rally, and that what Connor did was nothing short of powerful.

“He brought with him a magnificent wagon that stood as a symbol of our heritage — a reminder of where our culture began, with wagons and tents,” said John Reilly.

“That wagon wasn’t just a piece of history; it represented our ongoing struggle,” he added.

“Back then, we were discriminated against — and here in 2025, that discrimination still follows us. It was emotional and powerful to see that wagon lead the rally, a reminder to the public and the government that our culture still stands strong, and so do we.”

“We at GTL are truly grateful to Connor John, and to the many Gypsies and Travellers who stood with us in Manchester.”

“Myself and Tommy Joyce are proud to have marched alongside our people that day, standing up for justice, for our rights, and for a better future for the next generation.”

Tyson Fury is no stranger to standing up for the rights of Gypsies and Travellers himself and has often used his social media platforms to raise awareness about a mental health crisis among the UK and Ireland’s Gypsy and Traveller people.
