Brent Gypsy or Traveller? Have your say about new council GRT strategy

The Traveller Movement is supporting  Brent Council, London,  to develop a Gypsy and Traveller strategy which is essentially a plan to improve the lives of Romani (Gypsies), Roma and Irish Travellers living in the borough - as part of that, the Traveller Movement  are supporting individuals from the Romani (Gypsy) and Irish Traveller communities to fill in a survey and they will also be delivering focus groups. The Traveller Movement are particularly trying to reach housed Romani (Gypsy) and Irish Traveller communities.

The focus groups will be held this evening on Tuesday 28th October, 6 - 8 PM (Adults 25+) and next Tuesday 4th November,  5-7 PM (Young People 16-25) at Harlesden Library, 53 Craven Park Road, NW10 8SE.

A spokesperson for the Traveller Movement said:

"The Traveller Movement is a national charity, which often delivers localised projects as well as larger-scale, national projects.”

“Our project lead for this work is a resident of the Lynton Close public authority Traveller site in Brent, so our engagement with the Council on this work is very much community led,” they added.

The Traveller Movement will be facilitating the focus groups although members of Brent Council will be on-hand to answer specific questions around the new pitch allocation policy and ongoing site search. The Traveller Movement will be writing up the analysis of the focus groups, and this will feed into Brent Council's Gypsy and Traveller strategy.

The link to the survey is here: https://haveyoursay.brent.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/gypsy-traveller-strategy-and-pitch-allocation-policy

The survey asks questions on topics like:

  • what the Council can do to improve lives for Romani (Gypsies) and Irish Travellers in the borough
  • the new pitch allocation policy
  • experiences accessing local services i.e. schools, the GP

If anyone needs support filling in the survey, they can give ccall the Traveller Movement’s Olivia on 07923 239696 or I can visit them in-person if people would prefer. We can arrange dates/times via WhatsApp.
