Pride of Romany premieres The Atchin Tan Heritage Project Film Premiere and Immersive Exhibition

Nantwich, Cheshire – Monday, 6th October 2025 – Pride of Romany is proud to present the premiere of The Atchin Tan Heritage Project, an extraordinary film premiere and immersive exhibition celebrating the rich and often overlooked history of British Romanichal families.

Supported by Historic England, this landmark event recognises the legacy of Romanichal community, particularly those connected to Sound Common a historic site that was once home to hundreds of Romany families before their forced removal in the 1960s.

On the morning of 6th October, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled at Sound Common in a special ceremony led by community elders, Historic England, and Cheshire East Council. This plaque honours the British Romanichal families whose lives, heritage, and stories are forever woven into this sacred land.

That evening, a formal black-tie event will be held at:

Nantwich Civic Hall

Market Street, Nantwich, Cheshire, CW5 5DG

5:30 PM – 11:00 PM

The evening event will bring together community leaders and elders, advocates, artists, and supporters for an unforgettable experience.

Charmaine, founder of Pride of Romany, reflects, “This project is a labour of love — it honours the memory of our ancestors and their resilience in the face of eradication and assimilation attempts. Romany families who lived on Sound Common for multi generations, and whose stories deserve to be told with dignity and respect.”

The event marks a significant moment of recognition for British Romanichal heritage, highlighting the enduring strength and pride of the community.
