Rugby - Kushti Kherd: GRT History Month Open Mic, Poetry and Comedy Night

Warwickshire Libraries is proud to be hosting ‘Kushti Kherd’, a special Open Mic Night to celebrate Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month!

The evening welcomes musicians, comedians, poets and performance artists with Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showmen, Boater heritage who will be there to share their talents! This special event builds on Warwickshire Libraries' successful 2024 collaboration with Romani artist Gemma Lees, which included school workshops and a Gypsy, Roma, Traveller Library Tour.

Time: 7.30pm-9pm

Meet the Performers:

Gemma Lees

Gemma is a poet, performance artist, fine art installationist, journalist, comedian and facilitator. Her work strongly focusses on inclusion, advocacy and protest.

She is a proud Romany Gypsy, who was born into a creative family and works to continue that tradition with her own family.

Louise Fazackerley

A down-to-earth stargazer with Boater heritage, with work rooted in word-witchery and the underclass, Louise explores the relationship between poetry and movement in a way that makes the ugly beautiful and the mundane fantastical. She has been a support artist for John Cooper Clarke, as seen and heard in The Guardian/ BBC Breakfast/ Radio 4 Women's Hours/ Radio 3. Published poetry collections include The Lolitas and The Uniform Factory (Verve Poetry Press) Bird St. (The Secret Writers Club) and ‘The Pleasure Dome’ (Burning Eye).
