A new chapter for Travellers Times Charity
We are thrilled to officially announce the launch of Travellers Times Charity! For years, we have shared stories, challenged stereotypes, and amplified the voices of Romany, Traveller and Roma people across the UK. Having registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in March 2025, we are now stepping into an exciting new era — strengthening our commitment to equality, media representation, and cultural celebration.
This landmark transition is made possible thanks to a transformative three-year grant of £466,195 from The National Lottery Community Fund, which began in July 2026. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all National Lottery players; your support directly empowers us to amplify voices that are too often unheard.
Who we are:
At Travellers Times Charity, authentic representation isn’t just something we advocate for — it’s who we are. Grounded in the principle of community leadership, our organisation is proudly run by staff and a Board of Trustees drawn directly from the Romany, Traveller and Roma communities we represent. From strategic governance by our Managing Director and Board of Trustees, to daily storytelling shaped by our two‑person editorial team, operational support from our production and admin assistant, and audience outreach driven by our dedicated social media and marketing manager, every level of our work is guided by lived experience.
Our Mission & Core Objectives
Supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, our mission is to empower Romany, Traveller and Roma communities by placing community voices at the heart of our governance and story‑led journalism, advancing equality, and celebrating our rich cultural heritage.
To achieve this, our work is guided by the following core objectives designed for public benefit and real-world impact:
- Ensuring authentic community leadership by achieving and maintaining at least 60% representation of Romany, Traveller, and Roma individuals within our Board and Team, ensuring community voices directly drive our governance, operations, and vision.
- Standing up against discrimination by advocating directly for the rights, equality, and fair treatment of Romany, Traveller, and Roma communities across all aspects of public life.
- Empowering through media and education by utilising our platforms, podcasts, and workshops to advance education, provide equitable access to vital resources, and raise awareness about equality and diversity.
- Challenging media misrepresentation by actively tackling unfair portrayals and publishing diverse, impactful stories that authentically reflect community experiences and promote accurate, nuanced reporting.
- Promoting responsible journalism by delivering specialised media workshops for journalists, creators, and sector partners to uphold ethical reporting standards and foster culturally sensitive media projects.
- Celebrating culture, arts, and heritage by producing creative content and public events that showcase the rich traditions, history, and artistic achievements of Romany, Traveller, and Roma communities.
- Building bridges and cross-sector collaboration by partnering with community members, artists, and organisations to foster meaningful connections, mutual understanding, and shared respect.
Be part of our now & our future:
Our work is built on trust, community and collaboration. We are deeply proud of our existing relationships with Romany, Traveller and Roma individuals, families and partner organisations across the UK — and we look forward to continuing these vital partnerships.
Whether you are an aspiring writer, a community advocate, an artist, or someone with a story that needs to be heard, Travellers Times is here to help you share it with the world.
