Scouting for sites: Guildford Borough Council

14 June 2013

GUILDFORD Borough Council is looking to hear for feedback from Travellers and the wider community as it looks for land that might be suitable for new sites.

The Council needs to come up with a five year supply of "deliverable" sites, in line with new government rules.

At this stage, GBC does not want people to point out specific pieces of land.

What they are looking for are comments on what they should bear in mind during their search: a part of the process called the "methodology".

Their draft methodology can be found online here.

The following comes from Heather Sandall, the Council's senior planning officer.

"Traveller Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) – proposed methodology We are consulting on our proposed methodology for preparing a traveller Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).

The purpose of the traveller SHLAA is to assess land to see if it is suitable, available and viable for traveller accommodation.  It is a technical assessment that will inform our new Local Plan.

The proposed methodology and consultation response form are available on our website at www.guildford.gov.uk/travellershlaa.  The proposed methodology does not include any potential development land.

If you would like to give us feedback on the proposed methodology, or suggest possible development land in the borough for traveller accommodation, please respond by 26 July 2013.

Please email your completed response form to planningpolicy@guildford.gov.uk or post it to the address below.

Kind regards
Heather."
