Atching Tan

The Romany Theatre Company (RTC) is delighted that the second series of its groundbreaking radio drama, Atching Tan, is now available to listen to via the Travellers’ Times website.
The drama series follows the relationships that evolve between members of the Gypsy/Romany/Traveller community and the settled community in a rural village.
Series two resumes following series one’s dramatic finale of cross-cultural romance and conflict. As Mark Norman, Editor at BBC Radio Three Counties commented: ‘With this drama we’ve been able to look at a difficult subject and explore our own feelings in a creative way. At times it’s going to be uncomfortable.’
If you missed series one, don’t worry; you can catch up via the BBC Radio Suffolk website or on the Atching Tan website.
Sometimes explosive, often thought-provoking, always insightful, the series was scripted by budding Gypsy/Romany/Traveller writers and features a cast of Gypsy/Romany/Traveller actors as well as actors from the settled community.
Dan Allum, creator of the Atching Tan series and Project Director at the Romany Theatre Company, explains how the series has been influential on several levels: ‘Atching Tan is important because not only has it provided opportunities for members of the Gypsy/Romany/Traveller community to learn new skills and offer a door to new experiences, such as writing and acting, but by going out on the BBC airwaves, it helps to bring together two communities that historically have not always had good relations.’
